Strong Home-School Partnerships

We believe that a strong partnership with parents and carers is key to every child's success.

Communication
A weekly class email will let you know what your child's class have been up to that week, and what is coming up in the week ahead. As well as serving as a helpful reminder of practical items such as what kit is needed on what day, these emails are also used to share links to resources or information that you may find helpful to support your child's learning at home. Regular reports and teacher meetings will keep you informed about your daughter or son's progress in school and, of course, our doors are always open for any concerns – academic or emotional – that you’d like to discuss.

If you need to contact the school for any reason, our I&J office is staffed daily in term time from 8.00am until 5.30pm. They can help you with queries about attendance, lost property, trip bookings, stay and play sessions and more. The school office also send out a weekly email, sent each Thursday, with useful information and diary dates, to keep you up-to-date with everything that is going on in school.

Parent-Teacher meetings & reporting
In Reception, you can follow your child's progress in school via Tapestry, a secure portal that allows us to share your child's learning with you. Tapestry also allows you to upload examples of things your child does at home, and we encourage you to share relevant information with your child's form teacher this way, to build a complete picture of your son or daughter's learning and development towards the Early Learning Goals.

Across BGS Infants, there are also regular parent-teacher meetings and detailed reports which keep you informed about your child’s progress.

  • Reception (EYFS): Meetings are held before October half-term, before the end of the Autumn term, and towards the end of the Spring term. In the Summer term, a detailed personal report covering all learning areas and key developmental milestones is provided via My School Portal, along with Early Learning Goal attainment. Parents are invited to discuss their child’s progress and next steps.
  • Years 1 & 2: Early in the Autumn term, parents can arrange a meeting with the Form Tutor to discuss how their child has settled in. Reports are uploaded to My School Portal once per term:
    • Autumn & Summer terms: Reports cover Core Subjects, Games, carousel subjects, and include a Form Tutor’s report. The Summer report also includes English and Maths assessment scores with national and BGS averages.
    • Spring term: Reports focus on Foundation Subjects, Games, and carousel subjects. Parents can meet with both the Form Tutor and specialist Subject Teachers.

Following each report, parents have the opportunity to meet with staff to discuss their child’s learning journey but we encourage you to speak to your child's teacher at any time, if there is an issue which is causing you concern.
