Exploring, Discovering, Growing

In Reception, your child will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, designed to ignite a sense of wonder and excitement about learning.

A blend of child-led exploration and teacher-guided activities ensures a dynamic and balanced approach, with plenty of hands-on learning through play. Play is essential for pupils’ development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems and relate to others. Ongoing assessments enable staff to understand each pupil’s level of achievement, interests and learning styles, and plan for their next steps.

Classroom experiences are enriched by specialist-taught subjects, including PE, Swimming, Dance, and Forest School, fostering physical confidence and an early appreciation of the natural world. Literacy and numeracy are key focuses, alongside developing an understanding of the world, expressive arts and design, and an introduction to a modern language.

Learning at this stage is brought to life with inspiring trips and visiting experts, providing memorable, real-world experiences that deepen understanding and spark curiosity.

Further details of our exciting and engaging curriculum can be found in the BGS Infant and Junior Curriculum booklet.
